The sampling process in itself began in December 2015, during which time we fixed the microphones in a standard Mid/Side (MS), where two mics face each other, usually one just above the other, at a 90-degree angle. This helps the end-users control the stereo image without having phase problems.
On the hardware side, the microphones used were chosen for their specific sonic qualities and their historical use, including the : AKG C24 (1959), Sennheiser 421 (1960), Shure SM57 (1965), Neumann KM 84 (1966), ElectroVoice RE20 (1968), Neumann KM 86 (1968), Neumann U47 (1969), Neumann U47 FET (1969), Sony ECM-50 (1969) and the AKG C414 (1971). All of these were recorded through the original Neve 8078 console at The Hit Factory.
